I got into work and heard a co-worker going desk to desk in the cubicles nearby telling everyone, “Did you see? Cheryl’s in the newspaper!” This is how I found out that the interview we did last month had been published. Overall it’s a nice article — all about FrugalVictoria.com and some of the things we do (and don’t do) to save a buck. [Read it at the Times-Colonist]
Funniest response?
One co-worker asked me, “How do you feel about being described as cheerful?”
“Ah,” I replied with a wry smile, “there’s always going to be inconsistencies in the media.”
I also got feedback from a reader and my father that replacing a toilet did not require the services of a plumber. I am standing by this one though. While I know how to do the job — and I did replace the toilet at the townhouse — I don’t aim to repeat it unless there are no plumbers left in the city.
The publication meant that an otherwise dull work-day became a full day of ego-boosts as people congratulated me on the article, the great photo (of which I am ordering prints!!) and the website. I was even called a rock star, though I think there may have been some tongue in that particular cheek.
I am hopeful however that the increased attention will bring in advertisers and maybe even a volunteer to maintain the event calendar.
In the meantime, I must offer this little distraction. When TomTom GPS announced it was offering the option to download Star Wars voices I immediately quipped, “Oh, yeah, like R2D2!” which was followed by about 3 minutes of back and forth riffing that ultimately resulted in this video. Enjoy:
HAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHA AWESOME. PURE AWESOME>
You’re right, Cheryl: it IS a great photo!
And well done on the article. One thing I really enjoy about you is your thriftiness. To a large degree it’s how I live my life, too, so it’s good to read someone else who shares those values. I suspect I’m regarded as something of a tight-arse by some of those around me, but I get such a kick out of finding that perfect thing at the thrift shop or similar. It’s more than saving money — but it is undoubtedly that — it’s recycling, it’s creativity, it’s the hunt, it’s making a home that doesn’t look like everyone else’s, a home with SOUL, dammit! The world needs more of it, I say.
Great article!
