This is the third incarnation of Flotsam and Jetsam, my personal blog. The first was on Blogger from 2004-2010 (victorialocal.blogspot.com). Before that, I used my personal website as a sort of brain dump of ideas, thoughts, interests and whatnot. Before that, I logged into bulletin-board systems (BBSes). In other words, I’ve been sharing bits of my life online quite a long time.
I chose the title Flotsam and Jetsam for two reasons: 1.) I live by the ocean and it is very much a part of who I am and 2.) the content of the blog is basically whatever floats close enough to the surface to be captured. I shifted to Coastal Flotsam when I needed to buy a domain and felt that this might be easier to remember.
