If you’ve been reading along for any length of time, you’ll know I write haiku all the time. I write it about anything. Over the years I’ve entered (and won) haiku contests, I’ve written reviews in the format, and I’ve even collected a bunch into a book. I have plans for another book, too, but want to pitch that one to a publisher.
Anyway, I’m pretty sure I can boil down anything into 17 syllables in the traditional 5-7-5 format. Here’s some samples:
This entry won me a movie punch-card ($20) from Cabin 12; the goal was to use the words “eggs benny” or “eggs benedict”; I called it “Benny Noir”
they smiled, complicit
over coffee they ordered
eggs benny for two
Today, I entered a contest for dinner-for-two at Barb’s Place with a haiku about “nerds”:
underneath bad hair,
sci-fi fandom and math skillz,
nerds are just like us
And just off the top of my head, here’s a review of The Expendables:
with fists, knives and guns
people die and things explode
basic action film
