Managed to make it to Eat Here Now! a local food festival put on in support of a permanent Public Market for the City of Victoria. The weather looked a bit hesitant and it was raining when we arrived but within the first few minutes, the skies cleared and the rain held off for the rest of our time at the event.
I didn’t taste everything on offer — I skipped the seafood chowder and the salmon bake; I also skipped the HUGE line for whatever Foo was serving (I’m sure it was fantastic but I wanted to try what else was available). I did try:
- mini-breakfast bites (egg, bacon, tomato and greens on a teeny tiny biscuit) from Relish
- a canape of duck on a rice cracker (way tastier than I was expecting) from Canoe Brewpub
- Greek-spiced lamb skewer with yogurt sauce on a spiced pita from Ambrosia catering
- Moroccan lamb meatball and naan with cucumber-yogurt-dill dip from Penelopes
I also bought some sourdough bread (in a machine-stitched butcher paper bag) from a baker I can’t recall (oops), some cupcakes from Crumsby’s cafe (3 carrot cake and 3 maple-pecan-applesauce), and some maple-smoked rock salt from the Vancouver Island Salt Co.
Kiddo got to create a compostable critter from vegetable bits and toothpicks as well as watch some kid-friendly food theatre. Overall very enjoyable way to pass a couple of hours.
