I have a blog? Oh yeah. Sorry about that.
Well, I’ve been writing other stuff this month — mostly writing in circles with my “Better than 50” windmill I’m tilting at. Sitting down talking to someone about it, I agreed that even if I finish it, I don’t have the following of fanfic fans to drag along and sell the many copies as needed. … but I’m still trying to finish it!!
In the mean time, I’ve written a few other things that likely won’t fit in the book but I got sidetracked and felt I needed to write them out just to purge them. (Yes, they’re all naughty — likely too naughty for a wannabe bestseller.) So while I’ve written a lot of words this month, I will not come anywhere close to the 50K goal of Camp NaNoWriMo by Friday. Oh well.
The other thing I’ve been doing is reading. I will be doing full reviews of these on Medianook at some point when I stop writing naughty things… but for now I have to recommend stuff to you all:
Death Note — a manga series in 12 parts, this grabbed me right away and held my attention to the end. Alas, I was rooting for the wrong person to win (I won’t spoil it). The concept is this: Shinigami are creatures who exist outside the earth and who are able to kill humans in order to extend their own lives. Bored, one of them drops a Death Note (the method used to kill humans) in the human world. The person who finds it is not scared of the power but instead decides to use it to make the world a better place. As you can imagine, the book is full of ethical questions and is an interesting look at how society reacts to some pretty odd situations. While there are some typically broad characters in the books, the main characters are fairly well-rounded. There is also a 13th book which is part encyclopedia and part interview/behind the scenes.
Red Monolith Frenzy & Green Fever Dream, the first two books (Kindle ebook only) in the Blackstone Erotica series. Yes more naughty books — but these ones blend some pretty raunchy scenes with the horror and weirdness of Lovecraftian lore. They’re not too long and packed full of wild sex, otherworldly creatures and ancient magick. I really enjoyed both… book three is due out late fall.
Dragonfly Stories: Tales of the Erotic and Strange (Kindle ebook) — if you prefer your sex to be with aliens or perhaps plants instead of ancient creatures, then this might be the right book for you. The stories all center around interspecies breeding — sometimes by choice, sometimes by other means. A little less raunchy but definitely still strange. As with Blackstone Erotica, there is a second book in this series and a third planned.
And of course there’s our stories: Third Party Eyes, the result of my “where’s my cyborg body parts at?” query. It’s also for sale in the Kindle store. If you’d like to review Third Party Eyes, please get in touch with me, Mike or Jason; we’ll set you up!
