I found this lurking in a folder, something I wrote a few years ago. Sadly I can’t find the image I originally posted with it… but if you’ve ever read the books this will all make sense. Don’t read it to your toddler, though. (Apologies to H.A. Rey.)
Curious George Sleeps with the Fishes
The man in the yellow hat was mad.
George had made a mess again.
He put his hat on the floor
and, of course, George was curious.
He put it on.
The hat covered George’s head.
He couldn’t see.
The man popped him into a bag.
George was caught.
The man with the big yellow hat
put George into a little boat,
and a sailor rowed them both
out to the middle of the ocean.
George was sad, but he was still
a little curious.
The man quickly threw George
into the ocean.
Soon George would sleep
with the fishes.

Oh my. What did you have against poor George that day. Zoe has just discovered Curious George as a cartoon, and was quite taken. I always loved the books.
I loved the books as a kid but by the time I started reading them to my daughter I didn’t feel like they held up as well as other books from my childhood. I don’t think when I wrote it I was feeling any particular rage toward Curious George but rather feeling sorry for the Man in the Yellow Hat for always having to clean up after a monkey.
