November Again

Each November the following happens:

  1. I see badges for NaNoWriMo pop up on friends’ Facebook pages and blogs
  2. I think “gee I should do that again”
  3. I remember that (a) I sucked at it and (b) I have a bunch of unfinished projects I should work on
  4. I decide to finish some of those projects
  5. I get distracted by craft fair preparations
  6. I feel exhausted by the end of the month just in time for Christmas prep
  7. I wonder why November was chosen for National Novel Writing Month.

So, I’m just going to skip to point number 5. I already know I will be busy with craft fair prep; I am booked for three this year with a possibility of a fourth. My goal will be to clear out some of my existing Creative Miscellany stock — especially the larger plush items. If you’d like to find me and take some of these things off my hands, mark down these dates:

  • Hearts and Hands Craft Show, University Centre, UVic. 10-4:30, Tuesday November 16th
  • Cloverdale Traditional School Fall Fair, 3427 Quadra St., 10-4, Saturday November 20th (attendance not yet confirmed)
  • Magic of Christmas Gift Show, 471 Cecilia Road (Burnside Gorge Community Centre),  9-3, Saturday December 4th
  • UVic Libraries Craft Fair (staff only) 9-3, Wednesday December 8th

I’m starting to panic just looking at that list, so please, come visit me at one or all of these dates so I feel like it was all worth it!

  1. I think NOVEmber was selected for NOVEl writing because of the similarity. Really, apart from \Water For Elephants\ there aren’t a lot of success from the huge volume of novels being launched. Besides, any month is a good time to write a novel, if you want to write one.

    • Yeah, I know. I like the idea of the collective encouragement and guilt — not unlike the deadline for a class paper — but November always seems busy to me. Then again, almost every month seems busy to me when I look at it head-on. Like I said, I am going to skip to the important thing this month: prep for the many craft fairs.

  2. I think March would be better, or what about January? I think November is a stupid month to try and write a novel in. Too many other things going on and holidays to prep for. I’d love to do the challenge, but not in November. Not a chance.
