Kiddo’s First Craft Fair

booth_setupI shared my table today with Kiddo and her Rainbow Cat Creations — specifically her yarn dolls and bookmarks. She was a retail star; she grasped the 6′ rule without my prompting, greeting anyone that even so much as cast a sideways glance at the table, and gleefully announced our special offer (a free bookmark with a purchase of $5 or more).

While I had wondered if the snow would cause trouble, it didn’t (it stopped falling before midnight last night and had mostly melted by morning). We had a decent flow of traffic with just a few lulls. Kiddo got bored here and there but we kept ourselves busy, reading, writing, snacking and stitching between customers. She was happy to watch the table during breaks and to run off and grab tea to supplement our lunches.

As much as I get annoyed with the “I could do that” set, Kiddo just got annoyed with lookey-loos. I had to explain to her that browsers were an integral part of the whole thing — that sometimes a person who was “just looking” would return later to buy, or would refer someone else to buy. I also reminded her of the many times we go into stores without buying anything. A short while later, I caught her urging business cards to anyone who fondled the goods but didn’t buy. Sales freaking superstar.

It was really, really wonderful to have her there with me; she was helpful as well as good company and I hope she’ll consider joining me at other fairs.

  1. Thanks! I keep adjusting the set up bit by bit. I think I need some shelving but for now, this does the trick.
