I’m going to just do it. I am going to finish this damned novel this month. I’m going to go with Undead, even though it is technically “cheating” for NaNoWriMo as it already has 25k words. I don’t honestly care; I just want to finish it.
I’ve been taking the morning to prep — I would have done this yesterday but that turned out to be a very packed day, including dealing with a minor flood into my apartment due to a storm system and overwhelmed drains. Anyway, prep. Reading through what I have already written and looking at the notes (I swore I wanted a proper outline but I don’t have that yet…. ) and registering with NaNoWriMo — or re-registering because I couldn’t find or remember my old login credentials.
Here’s the summary I came up with for Undead:
In a world where resources have become increasingly scarce, some people are taking sustainability very personally. They are choosing to transition – a new process that removes the need to eat, regulate body temperature, or sleep. The media christened them “the undead” and since those who transition will never age, it is hugely popular among celebrities and young adults, though you must be 19 or over to transition without parental consent. The process itself is guarded and proprietary, and some people aren’t convinced that transitioning is as simple as it seems.
I’m also considering this part of my Year of Yes as a self-challenge — I want to prove I can actually get a whole novel across the finish line. I figure once I have done one, I can do another.
