Full of Potential

Sunday started with giggly, happy girls in the living room (awake early from Saturday evening’s “sleep-over”); outside we were greeted by an early morning rainbow.  Later, the clouds cleared and left a fresh, bright afternoon. While my plan had been to turn sod — as part of an expansion of our food garden area — I was unable to do that with my ankle in a wrap but I did manage to turn, weed, and prep the next bed for seeding (carrots, tomorrow). While I was out there,  I made a video tour of our garden area (and a preview of the shed-in-progress), in part to participate in the Urban Homesteading Day of Action.

In case you are curious, I managed to collect about an inch and a half of mud plus the unsettled sediment in the water from among the weeds.  It all got glopped back into the bed! The tour actually doesn’t include our whole garden area — I skipped the bed along the far fence, Kiddo’s bed full of bulbs and edamame-bed-to-be, and I didn’t show the front beds… but another time (and after I’ve made some adjustments).

It always feels good to dig in the dirt because it  is full of both history and potential; it’s a connection to our past and to the future.

  1. Cool! I should have been out digging in my garden yesterday, but had a few other things to do. I’m really looking forward to some sustained spring weather. Nice video!
