I can’t believe I’m already at the halfway point of my month off! True, most of that was on the road but somehow I had planned to be further ahead by now. By “ahead” I mean that I had planned to write a lot more on the road. Between crappy internet access (most hotels we stayed in had weak or throttled access and I chose to use my bandwidth time for uploading photos to Flickr. One hotel was so bad, we instead used the wifi from another hotel across the highway!), being worn out from driving and doing stuff, and really just not feeling like writing, I got little done.
We even had everything we needed to make podcasts (including a new external mic to work with our iPhone/iPods) but on the one day when that seemed like it would be likely (the day we spent 10 hours on the road), I couldn’t get into the right headspace. Instead, we listened to a lot of audiobooks.
While on the road, I did write one book review (for Focus; already blogged) and submitted an article, Authentically Handmade, to Authentic Authenticity. On our return, I reviewed all the audiobooks we listened to. Mostly though, I’ve been thinking and planning.
Today, Kiddo asked me why I had so many tabs open (I think there were about 10 open at the time) — several were social media (I’ve been digging around in Google+ the last couple of days) but more than half were various Google Docs windows of articles in progress, lists, and ideas. I was flipping back and forth between windows as thoughts arose. Not very focused or efficient, but I have got one full article (that needs polishing) and one very rough draft of another article plus two almost-complete lists. To be fair, one of those lists will likely change but it’s a good start.
I really do want to make good use of this time — yes, it is a vacation, but I want to be able to say I accomplished something. So, it’s back to goal-setting. I need to sit down and remind myself where I am at and where I want to be and decide what I can do in the next two weeks that will get me closer to that goal.
