I ache more than usual today but it’s not the stiffness that comes from sitting at a desk, it’s the realization that I am not used to a full day of physical labour. We’ve been putting off the yard sale prep but it had to be done and we had to start in the ugliest area: under the deck.
The space under the deck is not ideal but we have been using it as storage since we moved in. Most of the stuff under there is kept in Rubbermaid bins but in our wet city, it still gets very, very damp. Ideally, very little will go back under there until we can weatherproof it better. If you recall, it’s why we built the shed/workshop (and that’s where the tools and Mike’s art supplies have been moved — to their “forever” home).
Before…

We found stuff we knew was “somewhere” but hadn’t been able to put our hands on, and we found stuff that we thought we’d tossed long ago. Most frustrating was the stuff left from the last yard sale that had not been properly stowed and was consequently mouldy and ruined. Also annoying? Duplicates — including two wet/dry shop vacs. Sigh.
Midway through the day, we got a call from my Aunt (to pick up some other things for the yard sale) and we took advantage of the break to get lunch. Back at it all afternoon…. by 4:00 it looked like this:
By the end of the day (6:00) even emptier. All that “shelving” was there when we moved in — in all its craptacular glory. Also, you’ll notice the floor is just dirt… and that beam in the foreground? It’s the perfect height to smash one’s forehead time and again. Like I said, not ideal.
