Last of the summer weekends

Officially, school is back in session for Kiddo on Tuesday (but it’s only a couple of hours and I don’t know how the BCTF action will play out in our school district in the coming days, only that Phase 1 will be in effect as of 7 a.m. Tuesday…) and the crowds will return to the University the following day. Tuesday though, is going to be busy in its own way — I’m among those staff who have volunteered to run the Week-of-Welcome Library tours. But that is what is to come; this post is about the weekend almost done. It’s a bit of a marathon post.

For me, it started a day early. I had done all I could do on a key project at work — supporting the launch of the Anarchist Archive this Wednesday — and decided Thursday that I would ask for Friday off (no one objected). Friday morning, Mike and I went out to deal with some High Finance (getting Those DeWolfes Creative a proper full-service small business account) and then lunch (dim sum at Don Mee) after which, Mike was kind enough to let me wander and shop. The shopping was very successful, I returned with a half dozen new-to-me shirts (a semi-tone higher on the professional scale than my Threadless tees) a vintage skirt hem ruler, and a couple of Christmas gift items (likely stocking stuffer fodder… but we’ll see).

Saturday started with a trek to Michael’s to get a gadget we’d had our eyes on for a while. It was advertised at a deep discount and that should have been our first warning. I got there at opening and there was one box on the shelf. It was empty but I presumed they just kept the stock in the back. They were out of stock, as was the other nearby location. I asked for a raincheck (and got one) but the manager was honest; she let me know the SKU was showing as “inactive” and they hadn’t been re-stocked in some time. Later, I checked and a competitor’s website noted that the product had in fact been discontinued. Oh well.

Gardening filled the middle of my day (and the middle of my Sunday)  — more on that in the next post.

Our evening involved something social on one end of town and Kiddo on the other end at a BBQ. In between I found the exact thing I had been looking for (an aquarium to be repurposed as a terrarium) free on the side of the road: SCORE!! Mike was even good enough to pull over so I could pick it up. 😉

Today was low-powered for the most part, culminating in another social event — this one an invite-only performance of the Boys Own Guide to Sorcery live show which was plenty entertaining, though the host was most apologetic for the show’s lack of polish.

Tomorrow may or may not include any or all of the following: hemming of school uniform pieces, labelling of school supplies, a micro home-reno project, laundry, more gardening, meal planning, photography for the Victoria Grid Project.. or something I didn’t think to list.

=PHEW!!=
