Restaurant Hiatus

dim_sum_at_homeAs a family, we have gotten into some bad habits — one of them is eating out more than we should. We’re going to try to go the rest of the month without eating at restaurants to see how much it will save us and also to better control what we eat.

How are we going to manage this?

1. We’re going to need to meal plan and, more importantly, stick to the plan. As long as we work in some variety and take turns cooking (even Kiddo can do her part now), it should work out.

2. I’m going to have to plan snacks, too, so I’m not tempted to buy calorie-stacked sweets on my coffee breaks  (I have coffee covered with my french press). I’ve been looking for an excuse to make my own granola/energy bars so this should be a good nudge.

3. We’re going to have to support each other to stay home or “shop from the cupboard” rather than go out and grab something — that’s going to be the hard part.

On the plus side? Maybe we can finally make some more Cramped Chef videos. Here’s an early one:

And, hey, if you have any requests for something we’ve made in the past or something you’d like to see Mike demonstrate (or try), let us know!

EDIT: to see what Mike has already covered, check out his Cooking page — this includes both the filmed Cramped Chef episodes and also the recipes he’s just written down, including the Big Mike (his answer to the large two patty burger sold by a red-and-yellow clown) and the Noodle Bowl (his answer to a box of fried meat, veggies and noodles in sauce).

  1. Added an edit above so you can see what Mike has already covered — and give you an idea of what he might like to try.
