This blog post is just one of the things I have done today while not writing my novel. As today was Remembrance Day, it is a stat holiday. Normally today would have been my flex day but because of the stat I have pushed that ahead to Monday, making this a four day weekend with very little on the books. Speaking of book… I had hours upon hours to write today but here’s what I did instead:
- slept in past 9 am.
- lurked in the cycle of social media for a couple of hours (Facebook, Twitter, G+, Google Reader, rinse & repeat)
- went outside, moved the jack-o-lanterns to compost-friendly locations and raked enough leaves to fill two big bags
- fixed my personal site front end (I borked it last week with an update and misdirected all the image files)
- cooked lunch (well, threw a couple of frozen pizzas into the oven and made sure they didn’t burn)
- updated my Christmas wish list for family
- returned to the social media cycle for a while
- popped out to visit with my Mom and Aunt
- pondered & researched some Those DeWolfes Creative stuff; opened and closed a half dozen related Google Docs
- had a nap
- answered some emails and checked Twitter and Facebook a few more times while we waited for dinner to be delivered.
- ate dinner while watching some crappy ABC caught-on-camera special
- tidied the kitchen, sorted recyclables, re-distributed the Halloween candy, cleared the kitchen table
and finally - sat down to work on my novel.
Except that I was stuck and had no idea where to go next. I wrote about 200 words before complaining via Twitter that my muse was playing hard to get. Went back, wrote another 200, then came to write this blog post. The good news is that I think I know where to go next with the story. I’m at 8900 words and I’d like to clear 10k tonight.
It could happen.

EDIT: It did happen. I hit 10,268 words by 11:00 last night and I have now added a widget over there in the sidebar so you can see where I am at as I update.
