Moving On

20922_10153139233736183_7928752216822736486_nGot word today that the apartment I looked at last Thursday is mine at the middle of this month. In the photo, left, the lower window at the front will be my suite.

Faster than I expected but only by a couple of weeks. We still have to sort out when exactly we fully move over  beds, and big furnishing, and cable — but I should be able to move certain things over earlier, a couple of box runs, get the kitchen mostly set up, that sort of thing.

While it is lower level, the ceilings are full height, and it is a basic boxy apartment, so no weird corners that you find in basement suites. It’s small, and there is no storage locker available. I took measurements today — it’s a little over 500 square feet, so, I have to really think about what I take. I’m also debating renting a small storage locker (but I’d prefer to not spend an extra $100 per month, even if the apartment rent is less than I was anticipating).

I am … overwhelmed, to say the least.

My emotions are all over the map, but even if I don’t think about the big picture of what Moving On means, I have a ton of things to deal with in the very short term — things physically (packing) and things that need to be checked off/manged. I find that I will sit here and then randomly get up and pack 12 things, then stop until I think of something else that needs packing. I’m still avoiding a lot of the basement stuff. In a lot of ways, this is a good thing for me — to break my addiction to stuff. Not easy, but good.

Now that I have measurements, I can actually start doing the math of what furniture will fit, how many bookshelves/storage shelves I can wedge in there — there are only three closets (linen, and one in each bedroom) plus the kitchen cupboards and under-sink in the bathroom. I have no idea where I am going to stash the litter box for the cat…. who will probably hate me from the moment I move her in there. Sigh.

At least the kitchen is a reasonable size and design, even if I have to remember that I have an apartment size stove and fridge!

Many of you have offered help, and I thank you. Once I set a date for a moving truck, I’ll round up the troops, though it won’t take many hands for this downsizing move.
