On Thursday morning, I woke up with a great idea for a cartoon (that would also work well on CafePress merchandise). I sketched the rough idea on a post-it note and promised myself I would draw it properly later that night or maybe Friday.
Skip ahead to Saturday when I finally found the time and I thought, “You know, I shouldn’t have to draw this by hand then scan it in — why don’t I just plug in the graphics tablet?”
Now I remember. It’s because I suck at using the tablet. My skills are just not quite there yet…. so after two hours I had one and a half of the three panels roughed out…. here’s the “full” one:
Sigh. Back to plan A: low tech. I will be drawing with pencil then inking then scanning this week, if all goes well.

Nothing wrong with a good organic drawing that you’ve scanned. Technology’s gotta serve your creativity, not the other way around.
Are you using Illustrator? If so, do you know about Live Tracing your scanned drawings?
The above illustration is quite appropriate for the style it was drawn in, by the way. I know I felt just like that this morning.
I’ve never used Illustrator, I was fighting with Fireworks … and I completely FORGOT I could trace using the tablet!!! Time to re-think again! Thanks for your input.
