Ah, procrastination. How much a part of me are you?
As some whiny cowboy once said, “I wish I knew how to quit you.”
You may recall that I started my 11for11 goal with great promise in January. I even cleared one project off my list right away and moved on to the second one. Since then… well… my usual roadblocks have been scattered like seeds in front of me. However, I did skip ahead and do #6 on the list: updating & managing our Thosedewolfes CafePress pages, and last week, my writing survey also touched on a few of other items on the list — the Unofficial Victoria Guide e-book and the YA novel-in-progress, “Undead” and my “Urban Haiku” collection. but I am no where near the halfway mark that I expected to hit in June.
One reason: in the middle of 11for11, I did what I said I wouldn’t do — started other projects. Of course I told myself I would mine the poem-a-day project for my other projects (which I may still do) but I didn’t finish it either. I started it, got sidetracked, and let it die off midway through the month of April.
So where does this leave me?
I hadn’t listed the 11for11 projects in part because there was still some flexibility for the latter part of the list and in the overall order in which tasks were completed and in part because putting things out there doesn’t always work for me (e.g. Haiku Miscellany came about in part because I didn’t tell anyone I was doing it — I just did it.). But I’ve just shown some of my hand above, so for those who like lists, here’s what I’ve already discussed…
- “Home Staging in a Hurry” (while I consider this “done” it’s really not. Just the e-book is done.)
- Filling my Creative Miscellany Zibbet store with stock. (my goal was 100 listings and since I’ve only made one sale from that storefront, you can see I haven’t yet hit 100 — this is where I went off the rails in March).
- Updating & managing the ThoseDeWolfes CafePress store (the organizing is mostly done, but there is more managing and promotion to be done!)
- Cheryl’s Unofficial Guide to Victoria, the e-book (and ideally, the Mobile App)
- YA Fiction project (tentative title “Undead” though not specifically zombie or vampire… here’s a better summary from the first chapter of my draft (it’s still rough):
“While almost every adult now had the choice to transition, the procedure was still relatively new with only 6 Institutes in North America that were authorized to provide the service. Since the Institutes were privately funded and run, there was very little information about the proprietary procedure and few people who had completed the treatment were willing to talk to the press about it. All Susan and I knew was that it meant we wouldn’t get any older and, despite having eternal life, we wouldn’t have as much impact on our ever-more-fragile planet because we wouldn’t be eating or need heat; the Institutes were promoting it as the ultimate progression of the sustainability movement.”
- Urban Haiku — a collection of haiku accompanied by my photos.
That’s about half of the list. As you can see, I really need to get back on track. You all have my permission (yes, all of you) to ask me once a week what I’ve done from the list or where I’m at. Any more than once a week and I’ll get cranky. If I were to get these 6 projects done by December, I’d be ecstatic.

As a side note, I am still leaving the survey open; the most interesting thing about rating the projects is that many of you felt that Undead was interesting but very few ranked it among the top 3 projects to complete. More than half of you also didn’t have any clue that Medianook existed so I’ll now be adding a note here when anything new is posted there. I’ve also listed it (and my many other projects, blogs, and contributions) in the “But Wait, There’s More” section above.
