Forty-Four

Purple-Number-44Today is my 44th birthday. So far, my 40s have been a pretty good decade, overall and there is no reason to think the trend can’t continue.

Numerology is a curious thing. I discovered accidentally that numerology of house numbers was pretty accurate and I started looking at my age years. Flaky? Maybe but I frankly don’t care. For me, it’s a little like tarot cards, I can interpret the vagueness as it applies my own life and use that vagueness as a plan of action.

Anyway, last year 43 was to be about “great change” — and I focused on making some great changes in some of my attitudes in my life. You may or may not have noticed the changes but for me, they have been significant.  Close to me, there was one other great change: hubby’s name change to Shawn. All around, the great change has been good.

This year, 44 is about “balance, abundance and success through planning and effort.” So I am choosing to focus this 44 year on finding my way as a writer. I am going to start actively seeking freelance work as I build a portfolio and continue to write fiction and other things. Planning is a big part of 44 — other definitions talk about a foundation or a framework. I need a plan.

I need goals inside that plan, some benchmarks along the way that I can celebrate. I need to focus on finishing things too. For example, the ebook I was going to write in a week remains in limbo after two weeks of concentrated effort and a few days of filling in the cracks but it has sat long enough that I can resurrect it now and finish then mould into a final product.

My first goal? Draft a plan, a framework, and get it in writing THIS WEEK. It will include a variety of goals: some timeline goals, some habits to form (or break), some specific projects, and some specific markets.

Want to help? Please hold me to it. Ask to see the plan. Ask me what I have submitted or prospected. Ask what I am writing. Ask how many words I have written. Tell me to get off Facebook once in a while. Ask me what goal I have achieved or pick a specific goal and help me track that one.

I know I am a writer; I am happier when I have been writing. I just need better habits.

  1. When I was training for the 10 mile Broad Street Run, I posted my training runs to FB for the express reason of keeping me honest, and in the game.Good luck.

    • Yeah, I’ve debated something like that — a public accounting — but I don’t want to flood people’s wall if they don’t care to follow. I’ll figure something out. 🙂
