Erm… it appears I haven’t blogged in a while. Here’s an overview of what’s been going on:
Healing.
The surgery went just fine — no complications once I was under the knife though my body apparently didn’t want to get there, rejecting the iv three times before they switched arms and the intubation twice, so I awoke with extra bruises and a raw throat. I think overall the thing that surprised me most was how difficult it was to find a comfortable position to sleep on the second and third nights. Past that I was able to return to my standard curled on my right side position. Of course my sleep patterns were screwed up significantly for quite some time. I returned to work on the 18th and am pretty much back to my former self now, but still holding back on the (true) heavy lifting.
Driving.
You recall a while back we were having issues with our van. Well, after the mechanic’s fishing expedition, even though they couldn’t replicate the stalling, whatever they did seemed to have banished it. Meanwhile, my Mother in Law’s van packed it in and there was much angst about getting her a replacement. Finally I suggested WE get a new vehicle and sell her ours.
After a bunch of searching and test drives, we found the vehicle we wanted in Nanaimo. We drove up with my MIL and, after a test drive and some negotiations, did the insurance swap in the dealership, and drove home our new Kia Soul.
Writing.
A while back, I submitted a poem to Sanitarium Magazine and was pleased as heck to have it accepted! You can buy Sanitarium Issue 13 at Amazon for $1.99 if you want to read it. Other than that, my writing has been… almost non-existent and I am still only half-way finished the third writing newsletter — DOH! So what the heck have I been doing? Well, I spent a fair bit of time writing user guidelines to train website editors (one Drupal, one WordPress); when I do these guides, each one is customized for the user’s skill set and their specific configuration of modules/plugins.
Reading.
Lots of reading! My Goodreads list shows four books finished in September — three of which were also started in September. To be fair, I was reading while pre-and-post-op (if I could have figured out how to read while under anesthetic, I’d have done that, too). Rainbow’s End was fantastic and Johannes Cabal the Necromancer was enjoyable; I’d recommend both! I’m currently better than halfway through Shirley Jackson’s The Haunting of Hill House — perfect for October.
Viewing.
I feel like, for the most part, October needs to be a month full of creepy films. I easily listed 31 movies off our shelves (we have more than that) which are appropriate. I’m going to track what we do watch over the month and blog about it later. Speaking of which I am WAY behind on Cloud & Silver lining edits. My hope is to get those done this weekend so we can start recording new shows soon!
Crafting.
I’m thinking ahead to Christmas — both gifting and selling — and realizing I am almost out of time. I’ve made loads of necklaces and I have all the materials for making some small books, and I am still stash-busting with my yarn…. so maybe I will have a few things I can show for it in the next couple of months.
At least the weather has finally settled into “fall” — complete with heavy rainstorms, wind, and air chilly enough to need the gas fireplace on. It makes knitting more attractive when I’m not overheating just from holding the yarn. 😉
Celebrating.
October 4th is our anniversary… so likely by the time you read this, I will be celebrating 16 years of marriage with the best hubby I could hope for. Happy Anniversary, Shawn. 🙂
