Winter Wildlife and Birds

While helping to keep some of these critters alive may be frowned upon by neighbours or local pest control, one can’t argue with keeping the birds fed. In the Victoria area many birds don’t migrate, but they do change their habits in the winter.

The biggest challenge here isn’t snow but bird baths do tend to freeze over and food can be more scarce. Providing food can be easy though — Pinterest is full of ideas for DIY bird feeders! Some of my favourites are this un-suet suet feeder (using peanut butter), these Cheerio feeders, and these fruit garlands.
