Festive Flotsam Fast Forward!!

WhoOOps! Seems I have been busy and missed a whole bunch of festive flotsam! Here’s what I meant to post over the past few days:

Dec 6: Pom Pom Garland

I am guessing I missed this trend because I don’t have a small child at my side, but I love it! I love soft things on Christmas trees and I think a pom-pom garland in festive colours (or just in white to look like little snowballs?) would be lovely on a tree! I also like the trick of using a fork to wrap the yarn — I usually use my fingers.

Dec 7: Fold a Tree Napkin!

I watched this video and thought: wow, that took longer than I’d like to spend folding a napkin! Then I realized how much longer it would take to set a table for six, or eight, or more… but the result is awfully cute.

Dec 8: Handmade Handwarmers

Rice or bean bags are nothing new — little fabric bundles filled with either can be chilled in the freezer to soothe tired eyes or heated in the microwave to be used as handwarmers. If you are still rushing to make gifts for giving this season, you can whip up a batch of these as hostess gifts or just to have on hand for those chilly December mornings.

From Bee in my Bonnet, here is her tutorial for Hot/Cold Bags.

Dec 10: Four Gifts

I love this concept of giving four gifts: something you want, something you need, something to wear, something to read. As a kid there was always a brand new unwrapped book under the tree — it was the gift we were allowed to have right away while we waited for our grandparents to arrive. Well, that and our stockings (which were small but full of wonderful little things!) Most of all, I love the idea of paring down expectations, and avoiding the explosion of STUFF on Christmas day. Will I ever do this? Not likely, we are more than a decade down a different path… but who knows? Maybe if we manage to downsize we can consider this as part of the plan.
